Principal's Bio

Lisa M. Heard

Lisa M. Heard has been an educator for 21 years. She is the mother of two Gifted/Talented children, adoptive mother of three wonderful adults, and a lifelong learner. Lisa prides herself on helping students and teachers achieve to the best of their abilities. 

Ms. Heard began her teaching career as a special educator in an elementary school in rural Alabama. She taught elementary, middle and high school students with disabilities. She taught Algebra I and co-taught Algebra and Science. After teaching, Ms. Heard became the Director of Instruction for Greene County Schools in Eutaw, Alabama. After serving as Director of Instruction, she became the Special Education Coordinator in Greene County and then served as Special Education Coordinator in Tallapoosa County for seven years. Lisa Heard is now Principal of Bessemer City Middle School in Bessemer, Alabama. 

Lisa graduated from Dadeville High School in Dadeville, Alabama. She has a bachelor’s degree from New College at the University of Alabama and a master’s degree from the University of Alabama.

She has been ADHD trained by Chris Zeigler Dendy. She advocates for students with disabilities and trains parents, teachers, and students on the underrepresentation of minority students with ADHD.

Ms. Heard is a member of ALCEC, Alabama Council for Exceptional Children, and ALA-CASE, Alabama Council of Administrators of Special Education. In addition, she is licensed and ordained as a teacher of the gospel.
